Hello Everyone,

This week we worked with some of our beta testers to get initial feedback on setting up nodes, connecting the app, and we officially started running social media campaigns using Buffer. There are a couple of feedback questions we want to ask the community based on what we've learned from our testing. Before we start I also want to make a brief request for Android app testers, our entire user base is iOS!

Feedback

1.) What drives adoption for users that are in legacy ecosystems?

  • We heard variations of "this is awesome, but most people are locked in to [whatsapp/icloud/instagram/etc]" and we agree/have included some features in the mobile apps to overcome this
    • QR-code based configuration is low friction for both the node's operator and a user with a mobile device
    • Kash Stash accepts files, links, and copied text via "share" on devices, so we aren't really asking users to stop using their existing ecosystem

We're happy to hear comments any other users have received about this topic - it's a deeply interesting engineering challenge. Let us know what's worked for you, things you've tried, features you think might work, etc!

2.) How can we make setup even easier while keeping things decentralized?

  • The feedback we've received RE: our setup process is that it's very smooth up until the point where a more technical user would set up Kash Files, we have a couple of ideas for addressing it quickly/a longer term goal
    • Short Term: Include better setup documentation for Kash Files in the repository/produce a setup video and host on our YouTube
    • Long Term: Find a way to automate the setup process that's fewer steps for the user

If anyone knows of any services that are similar to cloudflare tunnels but require less setup and still allow the user to bring their own domain easily please let us know!
