Hello Everyone,

As promised (although we have a brief delay in Play Store publishing) pods have been added to the Android and iOS Apps! I also found time to deliver all of the optimizations for the frontend and the pods api. Let's get in to more detail...

Frontend Optimization

A couple of videos demonstrating the improved performance/organization:

Updated federation crawling logic - just shows advertised tags now

Updated tag loading/link preview logic - loads much more quickly.

Pods for IOS MVP

Pods are now available in the IOS App on Testflight and will be part of the final production release! Believe it or not this was easier to get working/get looking somewhat nice in iOS as compared to android, which is why it looks a bit more "production ready" and less like an MVP:

Pods For Android MVP

Here is a direct link to the apk file for the latest version of the android app while we wait for our key to refresh on the play store:

The UI is still a little rough but all the features are usable - if anyone is more experienced with Android UX than I am feel free to reach out with feedback!

As a reminder, all it takes to configure the Kash files, posts via the probes api, and pods is a visit to this section in the main Kash page that was updated a couple of weeks ago:

Known issues

  • Android app seems to cut off longer links in link previews
  • Background task for notifications not implemented for Android yet
  • IOS app doesn't have a way to reliably preview large posts
  • Background task for IOS notifications is not 100% reliable

TL;DR

Pods are now live on both iOS (TestFlight) and Android (APK while the Play Store key refreshes). Frontend performance and federation crawling were significantly improved with faster tag loading, cleaner link previews, and smoother navigation. iOS Pods look close to production ready. Android Pods are fully functional but still getting UI polish. Known issues: Android link truncation and missing background tasks, iOS large post preview limitations and partly reliable notifications. Everything including Kash files, probes posts, and pods configures from the updated main Kash page section.
