Digests

Digests are the core data storage object for pulse - where previous systems had separate object definitions for each type of "thing" ingested (for example: contacts, opportunities, support tickets, and leads) Pulse simply creates structured digests separated by tag. The search system can interpret this structured data and present it in a way very similar to current technologies but with significantly less compute overhead. We estimate that a pulse node can use as much as 30% less electricity as a traditional system.

Digests are generally the raw text of something ingest or a semi-structured format like:

To discourage users from not having a backup data source for objects we don't currently allow users to directly create digests via the user interface, although they can be edited, tagged, etc. Workers can create feed entries in response to searches and they can be created by uploading media or documents through the ingest tool - even a simple txt file or word doc of a journal entry works, for example.

This shift isn’t just about efficiency—it’s about rethinking how systems handle information at the root level. Where legacy systems categorized data into predefined objects, Pulse lets you relate to information as information—structured, searchable, and fluid by design.
